Weight And Cancer Risk
Excess body weight may not be a direct cause of poor
health, but new
research says obesity does seem to increase the incidence of
certain
types of cancer.
According to a report in the American Institute for Cancer
Research
newsletter, consuming excess calories and gaining weight
makes it
difficult for the body to change blood sugar into energy.
When this
happens, the body makes an overdose of insulin, which can
lead to
abnormal cell growth.
Researchers recommend consumers balance the amount of
calories they
consume with regular physical activity. Also, try to eat a
variety of
whole grain foods and at least five servings of fruits and
vegetables
each day. Following these recommendations won't guarantee
cancer
prevention, but these steps are key to a healthy lifestyle.
